In the 90s and early 2000s Many citizens of Transnistria, having no citizenship, went to live in Ukraine (in particular, in our neighboring Odessa region). Subsequently, these people created families and they had children, but personal documents, residence, citizenship remained the same. In Ukraine they have no legal rights: they cannot register the birth of their children, marriage, land, and house.
When identifying foreign nationals on its territory, Ukraine has to repatriate those back to homeland. Naturally, these people often have nowhere to return and to whom. Relatives have been long lost, homes have been ruined, documents were lost (passport, birth certificate). Upon return these people even have nowhere to sleep.
Before repatriation the migrant, the specialists of our center comprehensively study the situation, examine and assess the living conditions of the former residence, find out the availability of personal documents and the possibility of their recovery and prepare relatives and friends to be ready to meet the repatriated.
After repatriation NGO "Women's Initiatives" provides beneficiary social reintegration support, which includes financial assistance, support of the social assistant, free legal and psychological counseling.
Just in short period of time, people who have returned to their homeland restore their documents and return to their housing, find a job, place children in educational institutions, fully integrated into society.
