On the streets of your city: Let’s talk about what we can’t ignore

Locals in Bender, Rybnitsa, and Dubossary may have noticed our “You Are Not Someone’s Subscription” banners. Last year, we put them up in Tiraspol, and this year, we’ve continued to raise awareness about the phenomenon of cyberbullying on a broader scale. Many people think that “virtual” problems stay on the phone screen or only affect children, but this is a dangerous misconception. Here’s why it’s so important: 🔺 It’s closer than it seems. Digital violence happens much more often than we’re used to thinking. It’s not just hacking, but also stalking, unwanted content, and cyberbullying. 🔺 Hidden pain. Statistics show that people are more likely to seek help after physical violence. Digital threats are often endured in silence due to feelings of shame or underestimating the seriousness of the situation. 🔺 Fear and blackmail. The threat of leaking personal data or intimate photos is a powerful tool for exerting pressure. Victims fear retaliation and often don’t know where to turn when the “aggressor is in their pocket.”
🔺 Don’t stay silent if you’ve experienced online abuse, whether from someone you know or a stranger. Digital abuse can be a form of domestic violence. 🔺 Don’t blame yourself if your boundaries have been crossed. 🔺 Support, rather than judge, those who find themselves in a digital trap. Life shows that no one will build a safe internet for us—we can be part of this positive process. The organization’s activities are supported by Sweden and the Oak Foundation.
