How can we effectively interact with people who have mental health conditions? How can we avoid common mistakes and maintain professional boundaries? These questions were central to our recent meeting. The organization “Women’s Initiatives” held a seminar for members of the Transnistrian Platform for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and the Promotion of Women’s Rights, as well as representatives of other organizations. The speaker was Viorica Buksha (Chisinau)—a clinical psychologist and forensic medical expert. Thanks to her deep expertise, theoretical segments were interspersed with lively analysis of real-life cases. What we covered: • Types and characteristics: we reviewed the classification of mental disorders and their specific manifestations. • Safety and risks: what to look out for during initial contact. • De-escalation methods: how to conduct dialogue effectively and resolve conflicts in complex situations. • Practice: we analyzed case studies and real-life stories. The main takeaway from the seminar: ethics come first. Interacting with beneficiaries requires not only cool professionalism, but also deep respect for the individual, maintaining confidentiality, and understanding the limits of one’s competence. We thank all the specialists who participated in this productive seminar! The organization’s activities are supported by Sweden and the OAK Foundation.
