From August 19 to 25,“Women’s Initiatives” with support from the UNHCR, held an intensive training course for specialists who were participating in extensive preparations for the launch of “Girl Shine,” a life skills development program for adolescent girls.
Fifteen specialists participated in the training; they will subsequently serve as mentors and coaches for the program.
The main objective of the course is to build a strong team of professionals who possess not only theoretical knowledge but also practical tools, in strict accordance with the “Girl Shine” methodology. This is essential for creating a safe, supportive environment when working with adolescent girls and their families.
The participants focused on the program's key components:
Principles and Methodology: an introduction to the program's objectives and approaches to working with adolescents and parents.
Safe space: creating an environment that fosters open communication within the group and establishing flexible, sensitive protocols for responding to challenging situations.
The Role of a Mentor: taking on the role of a mentor—a guide who shares new knowledge, insights, and solutions through lively dialogue.
Practical tools: facilitating discussions on sensitive topics, keeping participants engaged, and adapting sessions to the specific needs of different age groups.
Monitoring and Conclusion: developing practical skills for conducting sessions, summarizing the results, and evaluating the program's effectiveness.
The recent training session allowed the specialists not only to delve deeply into the methodology but also to gain valuable practical experience for their future work. The knowledge they acquired expanded the team’s professional capabilities, strengthening their readiness to provide high-quality and compassionate support to girls and their parents as they navigate the journey to adulthood.
